About

Ami was born and raised in Southern California.  Fashion has been her life long passion and she has been hooked on the needle and thread since a very early age.  Growing up in the early two thousands she witnessed a huge shift in fashion from having a lot of small domestic brands to fashion mainly being produced cheaply and internationally resulting in immense waste.   This has motivated her to want to challenge how people see fashion and to also challenge her own design ability to be very intentional.  Aside from fashion, she loves to cook, she also enjoys spending time in nature and traveling to new places where she often gains inspiration and clarity. She loves to do things with her hands like paint, draw, floral arrange, and sculpt, she loves to be immersed in her projects.  She is the oldest of four from a huge Scottish and Spanish family, which has given her the tendency to nurture, the ability to be very observant, and also the ability to stay calm and be patient.  Her family motivates her hugely to approach fashion sustainably for her future generations.

As a young girl who desperately wanted to become a fashion designer Ami hoped and dreamed of going to FIDM. With lots of hard work and the help of FIDM advisors, Ami was able to attend FIDM with multiple scholarships and grants. Where she pushed her creative abilities and honed her skills which were initially self taught. While attending FIDM as a full time student Ami also worked full time in the industry.

Now, her passion has brought her to HEIDI MERRICK. Where she has had the pleasure of making clothes with timelessness and intention in mind. She has also had the pleasure of fostering many new relationships in the industry with designers, fabric mills, manufacturers, cutters, and more. Ami enjoys fostering new relationships and connecting with others in the industry. She is grateful to be paid to do what she loves and to learn more.
